É um privilégio estar aqui com vocês!

Minha família e santos em vários países, incluindo EUA, Quênia e Austrália enviam suas saudações a cada um de vocês aqui na Conferência!

Sou muito grata a Deus por Sua proteção e Suas muitas bênçãos - especialmente porque foi confirmado que no início de julho eu tive a versão de cinco dias do COVID-19!

Este ano foi um desafio!

Mas também foi um ano cheio de bênçãos!

Alguns de vocês sabem um pouco sobre mim e outros sabem ainda menos, então gostaria de dedicar alguns minutos para me apresentar!

Lamento que parte destes minutos sejam semelhantes ao que compartilhei na conferência de Novembro passado.

Eu nasci e fui criada na Austrália e continuo sendo uma cidadã australiana.

Quando eu tinha 21 anos, tive uma experiência espiritual que me iniciou em um caminho na vida que essa garotinha do interior nunca teria esperado!

Em 1968, deixei minha amada família e terra natal e voei para os Estados Unidos para frequentar a pequena universidade de artes liberais patrocinada por minha igreja em Lamoni, Iowa.

Mesmo sendo uma estudante estrangeira, tive a honra de ser incluída no Quem é Quem entre os Estudantes de Universidades e Faculdades Americanas de 1971 da minha universidade.

Em Maio daquele ano, me formei em Educação.

Mas o evento mais importante que aconteceu enquanto eu estava obtendo esse diploma foi conhecer um jovem chamado Bob!

No próximo mês de Maio, estaremos celebrando nosso 50º aniversário de casamento!

No último domingo de outubro de 2017, menos de uma semana antes de Bob e eu viajarmos para a Austrália, o irmão Joseph F Smith compartilhou seu testemunho sobre sua primeira viagem ao Brasil.

Durante todo o tempo em que ele falava, eu ouvia a voz muito distinta do Espírito me dizendo: “É por isso que você está aqui! … É por isso que você está aqui! ”

Enquanto ouvia o irmão Joseph e as palavras do Espírito, e enxugava algumas lágrimas, também estava revendo muitos dos eventos significativos em minha vida que me possibilitaram estar onde estava para realmente ter essa experiência particular.

Mas sem o meu conhecimento naquela época, o Senhor ainda tinha planos para “É por isso que você está aqui”!

Menos de 14 meses depois dessa experiência, tornei-me uma testemunha das Placas do Livro de Mórmon.

E cerca de 24 horas depois de eu compartilhar esse testemunho no ano passado, todos nós ficamos sabendo de outro “É por isso que você está aqui”!

Hoje, estou diante de vocês, não apenas com a responsabilidade e o privilégio de ser uma testemunha oficial das preciosas Placas do Livro de Mórmon, mas também estou diante de vocês, sabendo que estou aceitando o chamado para dar liderança e ministério na Organização da Fonte das Águas Vivas - o que só posso fazer por meio da força e orientação de Deus, e com o apoio e ajuda de minhas amadas irmãs e também de meus irmãos, e também de meu querido marido e família.

E, como vou fazer 75 em algumas semanas e tenho recolhido alguns problemas de saúde ao longo do caminho, me apego a uma escritura muito especial no Salmo 92: “Os que ele plantou na casa do Senhor florescerão nos tribunais do nosso Deus. E eles darão frutos na velhice ... ”. [Sal 92: 13,14]

Bem, estou dando um passo adiante na fé e apegado a essa promessa !!!

Desde Novembro do ano passado, quando esse chamado foi divulgado, o Senhor me deu paz e me protegeu de me sentir sobrecarregada com esse chamado.

Ele me abençoou com muitas percepções - para começar, eram apenas pequenas coisas, mas eram pequenas coisas muito importantes!

E agora, hoje, quero apresentar o que o Senhor colocou especialmente em meu coração para este momento em particular: Somos chamados a ser guardas - devemos PROTEGER os CORAÇÕES de nossos filhos !!! Quero enfatizar que esse chamado não é apenas para os pais; é para cada pessoa que escolheu servir ao Senhor Jesus Cristo.

Muitas vezes O Livro de Mórmon Selado discute esse princípio de proteger nosso coração!

Escolhi apenas algumas referências para mencionar hoje (mas preciso explicar que inseri as citações em meus comentários e que as referências completas podem ser vistas na cópia escrita, quando disponível).

As citações que escolhi são todas do Livro Selado de Moisés. No capítulo 7, aprendemos que “os pais tinham o costume de ensinar seus filhos sobre os bons sentimentos do Espírito de Deus de tal forma que, após o Dilúvio, o ensino se tornou natural entre os descendentes de Noé, assim como Deus projetado. ”[LSM 7: 1]

Mas alguém, sob a influência de Satanás, decidiu mudar isso!

Nimrod propôs uma Escola de Sabedoria para todas as cidades - a fim de doutrinar as crianças - ensinando que o bem é mau e o mal é bom.

Infelizmente, ele conseguiu; lemos que os filhos repreendiam os pais por suas crenças espirituais, alegando que seus pais e antepassados ​​haviam sido enganados. [LSM 7:14]

Em nossos dias modernos, nossos filhos ainda passam muitas horas na escola.

Eu sei que existem muitos, muitos professores dedicados, tanto em escolas públicas quanto em escolas particulares.

No entanto, sempre haverá quem veja o ensino como uma oportunidade para promover teorias e ideias que podem ter um grande impacto negativo em nossos filhos.

E para os pais serem considerados “estranhos”.

Mais poderia ser dito, mas o ponto mais importante é que na vida pública, DEVEMOS guardar o coração de nossos filhos !!!

No capítulo 5, aprendemos que os dons de Deus não existiram por muito tempo entre os filhos de Israel.

Assim que endureceram o coração, o que aconteceu por causa de suas tradições, “não foi possível passar esse conhecimento para seus filhos e para as futuras gerações ...”.

Moisés acrescentou que nem mesmo seus próprios filhos foram capazes de compreender a plenitude dessas coisas, devido aos preceitos que um de seus avós lhes passou. [LSM 5: 27-28]

Portanto, como avós e pais, DEVEMOS PROTEGER o coração de nossos netos e filhos.

No entanto, não estou defendendo que tentemos ensinar nossos netos se for contra a vontade de seus pais; em alguns casos, podemos apenas ser capazes de proteger o coração de nossos netos por meio de orações vigorosas - bem como inundar seus corações e mentes com nosso amor incondicional.

Acho que é importante notar que se os filhos de alguém como Moisés não compreenderam a verdade maior, então, quando há problemas e falta de compreensão em nossas próprias famílias, precisamos proteger cuidadosamente nossos próprios corações contra o desânimo.

Mas, se nossos filhos e netos estão interessados ​​ou já abraçam os ensinamentos do Livro Selado, então vamos fazer tudo o que pudermos para fortalecer essa crença e guardar seus corações.

Oremos intensamente pela proteção do coração e da mente de nossos filhos e netos - de todos os filhos!

Continuando no capítulo 5: “Portanto, guardai os vossos corações dos sentimentos derivados das paixões e desejos mundanos, pois todos estes vêm da influência do mal. Assegure-se de que suas almas não sejam afetadas por sentimentos de medo e dúvida, pois estes são contrários à coragem com a qual fomos revestidos pelo Espírito antes mesmo da fundação do mundo. Será uma luta constante para se proteger contra a influência do maligno ... Somente tendo pureza de coração é que os sentimentos de santidade podem ser alcançados, pois isso é ser santo: ser puro diante de Deus ”. [LSM 5:34, 38-39]

Este Livro de Mórmon Selado “não mudará repentinamente a geração daqueles que o obterão em primeira mão” (…). Mas "depois desta geração, seus filhos e os filhos de seus filhos serão cheios de santidade" [LSM 5:40] - isso é apenas QUATRO gerações - e "Sião coexistirá entre os filhos dos homens, começando no coração das pessoas …. ” [LSM 5:41]

Portanto, devemos fazer o nosso melhor para não permitir que o desânimo, o medo e a dúvida entrem em nossos pensamentos e corações - porque alguns de nós aqui já temos famílias de três gerações, alguns podem até ter quatro gerações.

Oremos pela nossa própria geração, pela geração dos nossos filhos, pela geração dos nossos netos e pela próxima geração - aqueles que ainda não nasceram.

Guardemos o coração de nossas crianças e adolescentes! Vamos orar um pelo outro. Pois, como nos foi prometido: "quanto uma oração sincera, feita com um coração quebrantado e um espírito contrito, é suficiente para mover a mão daquele que comanda todo o universo." [LSM 5:35; também A3N 13:14]

Que o Senhor Deus do universo abençoe a cada um! Que Ele nos ajude a GUARDAR nossos próprios corações para que então possamos proteger os CORAÇÕES das CRIANÇAS - para que Sião possa crescer mais forte dentro de cada coração - e para que os filhos entre nós, e para as gerações futuras, vejam e experimentem a Sião física que surgirá !!! Amém. Obrigado.

CALLED TO BE GUARDS

It’s such a privilege to be here with you!

My family and saints in several countries including USA, Kenya, and Australia send their greetings to each one of you here at the Conference!

I’m very grateful to God for His protection and many blessings—especially, because it has been fairly well confirmed that in early July, I had the five-day version of COVID-19! This year has been a challenge! But it’s also been a year full of blessings!

Some of you know a little bit about me, and others know even less, so I’d like to take a few minutes to introduce myself!

I’m sorry that parts of it will be similar to what I shared at last November’s conference.

I was born and raised in Australia and continue to be an Australian citizen.

When I was 21 years old, I had a spiritual experience that started me on a path in life that this little country girl would have never ever expected!

In 1968 I left my beloved family and homeland and flew to the USA to attend my church sponsored small liberal arts university in Lamoni, Iowa.

Even though I was a foreign student, I had the honor of being included my university’s 1971 Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges.

In May of that year, I graduated with a degree in Education. But the most important event that happened while I was earning that degree was meeting a young man named Bob! This coming May we will be celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary!

On the last Sunday in October 2017, less than a week before Bob and I were traveling to Australia, Brother Joseph F Smith shared his testimony about his first trip to Brazil.

Throughout the time that he was speaking, I was hearing the very distinct voice of the Spirit telling me, “This is why you are here! …. This is why you are here!”

While listening to Brother Joseph and hearing the words of the Spirit, and wiping away a few tears, I was also reviewing many of the significant events in my life that had made it possible for me to be where I was to actually have this particular experience.

But unknown to me at that time, the Lord still had plans for “This is why you are here”! Less than 14 months after that experience, I became a witness to the Plates of the Book of Mormon. And about 24 hours after I shared this testimony last year, we all became aware of another “This is why you are here”!

Today, I stand before you, not only with the responsibility and privilege of being an official witness of the precious Plates of the Book of Mormon, but I also stand before you knowing that I am accepting the call to give leadership and ministry in the Fountain of Living Waters—which I can only do through God’s strength and direction, and with the support and assistance of my beloved sisters, and also brothers, and also my dear husband and family.

And, because I’ll be 75 in a few weeks and have collected a few health issues along the way, I cling to a very special scripture in Psalm 92: “Those that he planted in the house of the Lord shall flourish in the courts of our God. And they shall bring forth fruit in old age….” [Ps 92:13,14] Well, I am stepping out in faith and clinging to that promise!!!

Since last November, when this calling was made known, the Lord has given me peace and protected me from feeling overwhelmed with this call. He has blessed me with many insights—to start with, they were just little things, but they were very important little things! And now, today, I want to present what the Lord especially put in my heart for this particular time: We are called to be guards—we must GUARD the HEARTS of our children!!! I want to emphasize that this calling is not just to parents; it is to each person who has chosen to serve the Lord Jesus Christ.

Many times The Sealed Book of Mormon discusses this principle of guarding our hearts! I have chosen just a few references to mention today (but I need to explain that I have woven the quotes into my comments, and that the full references can be seen in the written copy when that is available). The quotes I have chosen are all from The Sealed Book of Moses.

In chapter 7, we learn that the “parents had the custom of teaching their children about the good feelings from the Spirit of God in such a way that, after the Flood, the teaching became natural among the descendants of Noah, just as God had designed.”[TSBofM 7:1] But someone, under Satan’s influence, decided to change that! Nimrod proposed a School of Wisdom for all of the cities—in order to indoctrinate the children—teaching that good is evil and evil is good. Unfortunately, he succeeded; we read that the children rebuked their parents for their spiritual beliefs, claiming that their parents, and their ancestors, had been deceived. [TSBofM 7:14]

In our modern day, our children still spend a lot of hours in school. I know that there are many, many dedicated teachers, in public schools as well as in private schools. However, there will always be some who see teaching as an opportunity to promote theories and ideas that can have a huge negative impact on our children. And for the parents to be considered as “outsiders”. More could be said, but the most important point is that in public life, we MUST guard the hearts of our children!!!

In chapter 5 we learn that the gifts of God did not exist for long among the children of Israel. As soon as they hardened their hearts, which happened because of their traditions, “it was not possible to pass this knowledge to their children and to their future generations….” Moses added that not even his own children were able to comprehend the fullness of those things, due to the precepts passed to them by one of their grandparents. [TSBofM 5:27-28]

So, as grandparents and extended family, we MUST GUARD the hearts of our grandchildren. However, I am not advocating that we try to teach our grandchildren if it is against the wishes of their parents; in some cases, we may only be able to guard the hearts of our grandchildren through mighty prayer—as well as flooding their hearts and minds with our unconditional love.

I think it’s important to note that if the children of someone like Moses did not comprehend the greater truth then, when there are problems and lack of understanding in our own families, we need to carefully guard our own hearts against discouragement. But, if our children and grandchildren are interested or already embrace the teachings of The Sealed Book, then let’s do all we can to strengthen that belief and to guard their hearts. Let us pray mightily for the protection of the hearts and minds of our children and grandchildren—of all children!

Continuing in chapter 5: “Therefore, guard your hearts from the feelings derived from worldly passions and desires, for all these come from the influence of evil. Ensure that your souls are not affected by feelings of fear and doubt, for these are contrary to the courage to which we have been clothed in the Spirit even before the foundation of the world…. It will be a constant struggle to guard against the influence of the evil one.… Only by having purity of heart can feelings of holiness be attained, for this is to be holy: to be pure before God.” [TSBofM 5:34, 38-39]

This Sealed Book of Mormon “will not suddenly change the generation of those who will obtain it firsthand”…. But “after this generation, their children and the children of their children will be full of holiness”[TSBofM 5:40] —that’s just FOUR generations—and “Zion will coexist among the children of men, beginning in the hearts of the people….” [TSBofM 5:41] So we must do our best to not allow discouragement, fear, and doubt to enter our thoughts and hearts—because some of us here already have three generation families, some may even have four generations.

Let us pray for our own generation, for our children’s generation, for our grandchildren’s generation, and for that next generation—those who have not yet been born. Let us guard the hearts of our little children and teenagers! Let us pray for each other. For, as we are promised: “how much a sincere prayer, made with a broken heart and a contrite spirit, is enough to move the hand of Him who commands the whole universe.” [TSBofM 5:35; also Aof3N 13:14]

May the Lord God of the universe bless each one! May He help us GUARD our own hearts in order for us to then be able to guard the HEARTS of the CHILDREN— so that Zion can grow stronger within each heart—and in order for the children among us, and for those future generations, to see and experience the physical Zion that will come forth!!! Amen. Thank you.
